Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 31 July 2026

Draft — not yet reviewed by a solicitor. Placeholders in [SQUARE BRACKETS] must be completed and the whole document reviewed before taking real bookings. See issue #34.

This policy expands on section 4 of the Terms and Conditions and forms part of them. It applies to everyone who uses rentwifi.now — visitors, renters, and hosts. If you break it, we may remove content, suspend or close your account, cancel a booking, and where the law requires it, pass information to the host or to the authorities.

1. The connection runs on someone else's account

This is the part that matters most. A rented kit is registered to its host's Starlink account and their name. Anything done over that connection can be traced back to the host personally. Misusing a rented connection is not an abstract breach of terms; it exposes a named individual to investigation for something they did not do.

2. What you must not do with a rented connection

  • Anything unlawful under the law of the place you are using it.
  • Infringe copyright, trade marks, or any other intellectual property rights, including unlicensed file sharing.
  • Access, store, or distribute material that is illegal — in particular child sexual abuse material, content that incites violence or terrorism, or material that is unlawfully discriminatory.
  • Harass, stalk, threaten, or defraud anyone.
  • Send bulk unsolicited messages, or operate open relays, proxies, or exit nodes that let unidentified third parties route traffic through the host's account.
  • Scan, probe, overload, or otherwise interfere with any network or system you do not have permission to test.
  • Run the kit in breach of Starlink's own terms of service, or resell the connection to third parties.

3. What you must not do on the platform

  • Give false identity, address, or payment information, or use someone else's payment method.
  • List a kit you do not own or have no right to rent out, or misdescribe its model, plan, or condition.
  • Take payment or arrange a handover outside the platform to avoid fees, protections, or the deposit process.
  • Post another person's address, phone number, or other personal details, including a pickup address released to you for a booking.
  • Post reviews or messages that are false, defamatory, discriminatory, or abusive, or manipulate ratings.
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-collect listings or user data, or attempt to derive precise locations from the approximate map points we publish.
  • Probe, exploit, or circumvent the site's security or access controls. If you find a vulnerability, report it to [SECURITY CONTACT EMAIL] rather than testing it further.

4. Handover and kit condition

Renters must return the kit in the condition recorded at check-in, allowing for fair wear and tear, and must complete the check-in and check-out evidence steps honestly. Hosts must not raise damage claims for pre-existing damage or for fair wear and tear. Both are breaches of this policy and of the Terms.

5. Reporting a problem

Report anything that breaches this policy to [SUPPORT EMAIL]. Tell us what happened, which listing or booking it concerns, and when. We aim to acknowledge reports within [N] working days.

If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services first.

6. What we may do

Depending on what happened and how serious it is, we may: ask you to stop; remove or edit content; suspend or close an account; cancel a booking; withhold or release a deposit in line with the Terms; and where we are legally required to or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim, share information with the host, the renter, insurers, or the authorities.

We will tell you what we have done and why unless doing so would prejudice an investigation or breach a legal duty.
